Nawada/Patna: Police on Sunday raided the official residence of Nawada district board chairperson Dharmshila Devi and her husband Birendra Chouhan in search of Nawada RJD MLA Rajballabh Yadav, who has been accused of raping a minor schoolgirl at his residence on February 6. An FIR in this regard was lodged on February 9. Dharmshila and her husband are considered close to the MLA. Raids were also conducted at a few places in Nawada, but the police failed to trace Yadav. RJD has suspended Yadav from the party.
New Nalanda SP Kumar Ashish has written letters to Nawada and Sheikhpura DMs requesting details of the MLA’s mining lease, arms licence, movable and immovable properties and bodyguards provided to him. The MLA has licence for sand mining in Nawada and stone crushing in Sheikhpura district. The SP has requested the DMs to cancel Yadav’s lease and licences and withdraw his bodyguards. “We will do the same with the MLA’s wife and other family members, especially his sons,” the SP said.
Ashish on Sunday said the second medical report of the victim does not give a clean chit to the MLA. “In the first medical report of the rape survivor, a female doctor of Nalanda sadar hospital had not mentioned specifically whether the girl had been raped or not. But the second report prepared by a team of five doctors has given a partially positive report,” said the SP.
“Failure to nab the MLA even after 12 days of lodging an FIR in the case lends credence to people’s perception that police are lax because the accused is allegedly very close to RJD chief Lalu Prasad,” said a police officer, who described the MLA as a “seasoned offender” for such cases. “The MLA is constantly changing location with his few associates. Three teams of Nalanda and one team of Nawada police were conducting raids to nab the accused lawmaker,” he said.
