Patna: Come April 2 and over 100 women will start getting training as professional autorickshaw drivers at the Veterinary College ground.
Women auto drivers first hit the city roads in August 2013 and offered prepaid services from Patna Junction and subsequently Patna airport. However, within a few months, the ambitious initiative was left in limbo when the number of women drivers in the business shrank to eight from the initial 35.
“The district transport office has already issued learning licences to 70-odd women drivers and permits are also being granted. Patna divisional commissioner, who is the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) chairman, has promised all help in this regard,” he said on Tuesday..After training women auto drivers, the auto unions also plan to impart driving lessons to disabled people and self-employed youths from April 10.
